A Day in the Life of a Recruiter…

The best way to learn in this industry is on the job, supported by the in-house training and development programme in place.
Although two days are never really the same, follow the below to get an idea of a typical day:
A day in the life of a recruiter:
08:00am – Arrive onsite at one of our clients who are high volume users of temp contingency labour – check in with the Shift Managers to ensure all is running smoothly, and pick up on any new requirements or changes for the day for the team to work on.
09:00am – Arrive in the office and catch up with the team on objectives for the day.
10:00am – Client Development
Catch up with existing clients and contact, and chase up any new leads gained – whilst doing this the aim is to pick up any ‘live’ vacancies to work on. We always try to arrange a site visit if the company are local.
12 o’clock – Placing candidates
Now is the time to advertise new roles which we have gained, and to speak with candidates about the various roles we are recruiting for, and the type of work they are looking for. Pre-screen and profile candidates to ensure that they are registered and suitable for the role we are recruiting for. Pass on information to the resourcing team to carry out reference and right to work checks.
Lunch – Time for a break and to catch up on new emails that haven’t yet been responded to so far that morning.
2pm – Client Visit
Visit a new client for a site tour and discuss the vacancies they are recruiting for. If the client are located close by to an existing client we will drop in to touch base.
4pm – Interviews
Merit have an open door policy, which means we will meet and interview candidates who drop into the office. We use this time to interview suitable candidates for the temp team’s vacancies, this could be face to face or via Skype. We will also use this time to feedback to candidates and clients on the status of their application/vacancy.
5pm – Catch up
We use this time to complete any administration duties, and catch up with the team on their outcomes for the day.
Then to make a plan for tomorrow, so that we are all ready to start the day, no matter what might come up!
5:30pm – Home!
It’s a competitive industry that we are in, and occasionally we need to stay on to fill that last minute job from a client. For Merit, our word is our bond.

The days and weeks really do fly by in recruitment!
