Queen Mary’s College and Merit Group join forces!

Queen Mary’s College and Merit Group are set to join forces as part of a new work experience scheme that will offer young bright minds a platform to manage and create media in a professional environment. With Merit and in conjunction with Face T.V. the exceptionally talented students of QMC will have the opportunity to create material for a thriving business at the vanguard of the Basingstoke community- material that they can then add to their portfolios as they begin their fledgling careers in the marketing and media industries. The students will also engage people over social media and gain experience in the recruitment industry by maintaining and developing relationships with clients and candidates. Students will perform a wide variety of tasks in a fast and dynamic environment in the Merit office and we will also arrange opportunities within our network of clients, enabling young people from QMC to action their own creative ideas in the professional workplace.

The Queen Mary’s College is a vibrant, inclusive and high achieving sixth form college for students over 16 years old. The College has a fantastic reputation throughout the UK and The National School and College Performance Tables identifies Queen Mary’s College in the top 5% of all A- level providers across the country. Merit Group look forward to this new partnership and will offer numerous work experience placements and paid internships this summer and beyond. Incredibly 30% of QMC students who applied to Oxbridge in 2016 were offered places- that’s 10% higher than the national average! It’s an amazing achievement and a real testament to QMC’s elite reputation. Merit Group recognize the importance of work experience and volunteering to a student’s university application and CV and look forward to introducing young people to the realities of the work place in the office of a thriving business.

QMC boasts some incredible new facilities with cutting edge technology that give students the means necessary for their creative endeavors, many of which have won prestigious art and media awards. Face TV are a television production agency involved in all aspects of the development, production, distribution and transmission of TV programmes and videos. Face will be involved in a new Freeview TV channel serving the Basingstoke area to be launched in 2017.  The proposal is for the channel to provide local news and current affairs, features about the area, profiles of local businesses, publicity for charities, promotion of local government services, provide exposure for local entertainment events, and overall to increase the level of high-profile communication to the area. Face TV will move into the innovative facilities on offer at QMC and together with Merit Group, they will work closely with the students to give them experience in the production of high quality media. It will give the students insight into the marketing and media industries and enable them to practically apply the creative skills that they develop on campus.

Together with QMC Merit hope to help young people get their foot in the door of the marketing and media industries and help them on their way to finding their career that they love!
